Recyclability and compatibility of materials used in the interior of the vehicle is increasingly becoming more important to OEM manufacturers. Use of compatible materials in the interior is currently limited due to the large number of different types of materials used. The introduction of Hivalloy engineering resin alloys, based on olefin technology, moves the automotive industry one step closer to making a recyclable olefin-based interior a reality. This paper will present test data for olefin based engineering polymer alloys which applies to interior applications. UV stability for molded in color components, paintability, mechanical properties comparisons with other resins, impact performance, heat aging, and living hinge capability will be covered.
