Authors Abstract
Content
A new spare tire has been developed which is smaller, thinner, and will thus occupy less vehicle trunk space. The mini-spare tire and wheel weighs 40% less which makes for easier application and also assists the vehicle designer in his quest for lighter cars. The mini-spare uses 60 PSI inflation to carry the vehicle load and produces cornering power substantially the same as standard sized tires. Other vehicle performance characteristics are satisfactory when comparing the mini-spare on any one vehicle position vs. the standard tire.
Tire heat generation and overall weight are minimized by using a shallow skid, round tire profile.
