The principal requirements on an anti-skid device (steerability, stability on symmetrical and asymmetrical road surfaces, stopping distances) are well known and not part of this representation.
The development of the FAG Anti-Skid-Brake system (ASBS) was preceeded by other activities on the mobile sector, from which the most important construction units could be taken, or from which at least the requirements to be expected in vehicle application were known. The knowledge from these developments in the field of hydraulics and automatic control technology and the experience in brake hydraulics were the base line far the development of an Anti-Skid-Brake system, which started in 1980.
The today's stage of development is a prototype system (mechanic-hydraulic and electronic) running in some prototype cars of european car manufacturers.
