- In this globally competitive business environment, design engineers are constantly striving with available design tools and techniques to have a robust and reliable product. Robust design and reliability-based design approaches have promising potential in dealing with variability in the life cycle of a product. This paper discusses why to combine and how to conglomerate both approaches into a single model. The paper proposes hybrid quality loss function (HQLF)-based goal programming model. The proposed approach aimed to have reliable as well as robust product and is hereby tested with a leaf spring example. The paper compares the findings of newly suggested approach with a deterministic and robust design approach.
