The Improved Turbine Engine (ITE) Program, run by the US Army's Aviation Turbine Engine Project Office (ATE PO), has a multi-faceted Modular Open System Approach (MOSA) to reduce engine integration and sustainment costs, control schedule risks, and enable opportunities for future upgrades. The approach is an integrated business and technical strategy that employs a modular hardware and software design, leverages data rights, employs United States Government (USG) defined interfaces using consensus-based standards, and makes architectural decisions based on lifecycle intentions for maintenance, sustainment, and possible future competition.
