A Method for Determining Required Operating Characteristics of an Intra-Theater Airlift Transport

The concept of air mobility has been proven. Decisions will be made in the near future on Intra-Theater Air Transports that will be operational in the 1970s. A comprehensive systems analysis of the entire Intra-Theater Transportation System should be performed to determine how many different types of air transports are required and the design and operating requirements of each. The scope of work is of such magnitude that a methodology must be employed which brings the efforts to manageable levels. Nine major variables of the Intra-Theater Transportation System are discussed, including eleven airlift missions. The proposed methodology explains how the data on the variables would be acquired and presents a schematic of the progressive steps in the analysis, itself. A brief example is given in scenario form to demonstrate the manner in which the methodology is applied.
