A Composite Rotor Shaft for the Chinook

A composite center section for a Chinook aft rotor shaft was designed, fabricated and tested. This component represents a major composites application in a primary load path element subjected to a fatigue environment. Advantages of composites included increased life and a 20 percent weight reduction.
