A 3D boundary element analysis, suitable for developing reliable local models for laminated composite structures, is presented. A numerical fundamental solution procedure is developed for orthotropic materials. Linear isoparametric element formulation is used. Preliminary results, obtained for interlaminar stresses, indicate that the boundary element analysis enables a higher local modeling capability compared to a 3D finite element analysis.
