3400 HP Apache Upgrade Main Transmission

The 3400 horsepower upgrade to the main transmission will have a 20% increase in power over the current Apache Longbow main transmission. The upgraded main transmission uses newly developed technologies and innovative design approaches; along with lessons learned on the current Apache drive system, to gain improvements for reliability and maintainability. These new technologies allow the design to be a more robust system capable of transmitting increased horsepower with little impact to system weight and at reduced acquisition and O&S cost. The design objectives are to reduce acquisition cost by 10% and reduce operation and support (O&S) cost by increasing the reliability. The objective is to increase the Mean Time Between Removal (MTBR) by 100%. The upgrade main transmission will fit into an AH-64A, AH-64D Longbow and future Apache Block upgrades.
