Medium and Heavy Duty application currently accounted in 2008 for 26 % of the fuel consumed for transportation activities in the U.S. The Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 will lead to regulations at the vehicle level. Due to the diversity of applications and the lack of vehicle dynamometer testing facilities, other processes shall be used to evaluate fuel consumption. The presentation describes the different steps of Model Based Design and how the processes could be used. In addition, examples are provided regarding selection of processes as well as the requirements of any vehicle simulation tool that would be used to support regulations.
