Authors Abstract
Content

Corrosion on braking systems is an important issue in the automotive sector. In particular, short term corrosion of the grey cast iron discs can lead to undesired corrosion attack at dealers, while long term corrosion might impair comfort and durability of the braking system. Moreover, corrosion attack of the grey cast iron might cause stiction phenomena between the breaking pad and disc leading to possible damage of the pad. Corrosion phenomena became more important for electrified power train vehicles. In this tutorial, will try to explain the basis of the electrochemical mechanism, some characterization techniques and the interaction on the stiction phenomena between the brake pad sample and the rotor (gray cast iron). Also, another aspect that will be considered is the rust removal conditions and simulations when we are considering Electric Vehicles. The goal is to give to the audience an overview from the basics of the electrochemistry to the experimental conditions test that will lead to the new challenges to be considered for the future vehicles regarding the friction materials development.
