Transportation Institute Brian Orwig, John Deere Margherita Peruzzini, Universita degli Studi di Modena The transportation ecosystem is rapidly transforming. New transportation technology holds the promise of increased safety, productivity, and efficiency. In some cases, including high levels of automation, the introduction of sophisticated and highly capable technologies will result in a paradigm shift in terms of how our transportation systems operate. Despite the promise of positive benefits that these technologies may have, many deployment challenges exist. For example, the impact that new transportation technology will have on the user experience (UX) is far from certain and, with the introduction of new technology, we should expect to see both expected outcomes and unintended consequences and behaviors. The aim of this panel is to examine the topic from several synergistic angles: (i) industrial design and product engineering, (ii) safety and human factors, (iii) telematics and fleet management, (iv) system operation, and (v) education and training. Experts in each of these four areas will provide their perspective on how they view transportation technology impacting the UX.
