Environmental protection systems of modern vehicles have significantly reduced pollutant emissions. Nevertheless, tampering with these systems can lead to very low efficiency. In the DIAS project, it was found that there is a substantial tampering market for all vehicle categories: for the heavy-duty sector, up to 10% of trucks in the EU have tampered with their EPS. The main motives are reduction of costs for repair, consumables and fuel, performance tuning and increase of the exhaust sound level. In DIAS, detection, prevention and reporting solutions were developed which led to the proposal of legislative proposals for the main end-users in the anti-tampering process.
