SAE TOMORROW TODAY: The Urgency of AV Safety

40 million miles of real-world driving experience? That's enough to drive to the Moon and back 80 times! And Waymo is putting that experience to work with an urgent, research-driven approach to AV safety. As the world's first autonomous ride-hailing service, Waymo One is available in San Francisco, Phoenix, Los Angeles, and soon, Austin. To date, the data indicates that the Waymo Driver is already reducing traffic injuries and fatalities in these locations. At the recent Government/Industry Meeting in Washington, DC, we sat down in-person with Francesca Favaro, Head of Safety Best Practices, to discuss how Waymo's Safety Case Framework is saving lives and improving mobility.
