As AVs continue to grow in popularity, one question remains top of mind: How do we know autonomous driving systems are genuinely safe? The Automated Vehicle Safety Consortium (AVSC) is an industry collaboration group focused on improving the safe development and deployment of automated driving systems (ADS). By bringing together automakers, technology companies, suppliers, mobility providers, and government stakeholders, the AVSC develops voluntary best practices and technical guidance that fosters public trust and delivers consistent AV safety standards. Listen in as we sit down with Darcyne Foldenauer, Executive Director, AVSC, and Erin McCurry, Principal Engineer, AVSC, to explore two new publications: Best Practice for ADS-DV Assessment of Safety Claims, and the Information Report on ADS-DV Stopped Conditions. From the difference between minimal risk maneuvers and minimal risk conditions, to when it's actually safer for a vehicle to stay stopped in lane, this conversation sheds light on the complex decisions behind automated driving safety. We'd love to hear from you. Share your comments, questions and ideas for future topics and guests to podcast@sae.org.
