The objective for standardized dynamometer testing is to provide a sound basis for comparisons among vehicles with varied vehicle designs. However, in the case of PHEVs, observed fuel economy may dramatically depart from results obtained in standard test practices depending upon driving style and accessory usage. In this presentation, expectations of standard PHEV MPG results will be shown and a discussion of how much these numbers may change when in-use behavior is considered. Results of on-road data and off-cycle dynamometer results will be shown from prototype PHEVs to illustrate the issue.
