Fueled by a global commitment to clean energy solutions, structural shifts in the automotive industry are emerging at a faster pace than many previously anticipated. The transition to EVs will cause profit pools to shift from traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) components to e-drive modules and systems. Companies focused on vehicle autonomy are seeing their perceived value boosted. These trends and many more disruptions will require a nimble and well-coordinated approach to product and operational strategies. Automotive OEMs and suppliers understand the significant impact on future car architecture and are investing heavily in new growth areas. Some players have already started to streamline their ICE-related portfolios, while others are segregating assets and managing the businesses separately. How to allocate capital and capacity, together with developing operating strategies for legacy as well as future businesses (such as spin-offs and joint ventures), now dominate management and Board of Directors discussions. In this first of its kind Roundtable for the Colloquium, experienced automotive investors and deal-makers discuss the following questions: - How should OEMs and suppliers balance investments between legacy assets vs. growth bets? - How do you see capital and resource allocation shifting? - What are today's key factors in value creation in an automotive related business? - What is your role in supporting these changes? Moderator: Prachi J. Vakharia, IMPROVED Panelists: Mark Gottfredson, Bain & Company, Inc. Kellie Lindsay Treppa, AutoTech Ventures James Penman, Donnelly Penman & Partners
