The reduction of PM/PN (Particulate Matter, Particulate Number) emissions have been the most difficult task for the China 6b standards. In order to find out how many dominant factors to the PM/PN emissions, this paper provide a detail analysis of the PM/PN impact due to the engine oil consumption. Conclusions, The engine oil consumption has been identified as a contributor to the PN emission. The strict requirements for PN standard call for a much greater understanding of the level of oil consumption. After a vehicle cleanup driving cycle and a good EMS optimization, it is possible to define the oil consumption level for the production vehicle. The vehicle equipped with a manual transmission would require a lower oil consumption engine. This is due to the MT vehicle has more transient condition than that of a DCT or AT vehicle.
