In the age of digital transformation the stakeholder needs in the aircraft cabin have grown enormously. A basic safe operation of the aircraft is nowadays accompanied by various passenger comfort and airline business functions. An Inflight Entertainment and Connectivity (IFEC) System alone is no longer enough to meet all these stakeholder needs. Thus, a networked and intelligent ecosystem for digital passenger services, airline business processes and smart cabin operation is highly on demand. With respect to emerging sensory, computing and communication needs but also for safety and security reasons, existing aircraft systems are hardly capable to deal with flexibility requirements and short life cycle of upcoming data-driven applications. From this panel you will learn how the Cabin Secure Media Independent Messaging (CSMIM) Working Group and an international research consortium are trying to tackle these challenges by designing an industry-wide communication standard for quickly evolving and highly flexible business processes the aircraft cabin.
