Just revised, this course introduces the revised SAE standard ARP4754B and its guidelines of practice for aircraft and systems development. These guidelines drive compliance with regulations and assist companies to develop and meet their own internal standards through the application of those guidelines. Most importantly, the course introduces novel guidance from two 2026 SAE Aerospace Information Reports (AIRs) that clarify and extend ARP4754B in specific ways:
- AIR4757, ARP4754B Clarification Notice clarifies derived and safety requirements, validation and verification, and safety process independence.
- AIR6218A, Constructing a Development Assurance Plan for Integrated Systems (DAPIS) adds development assurance planning for integrated systems in this course. Other guidelines in this AIR are addressed in the second course, C2302 ARP4761A Guidelines and Methods of Performing the Safety Assessment for Certification of Civil Aircraft.
- AIR6276, Use of Models and Tools for Aircraft Systems Development: new material in C2301 on planning for models and tools, with model and tool terms defined.
The course is the first of a portfolio of two which introduces the SAE standard ARP4754B and its guidelines of practice for aircraft and systems development. This course content is crucial to development assurance planning for integrated systems, including MBSE.
The instructors for this course are writers of the SAE standard, with practical expertise in this domain. The course is live and instructor-led, guiding learners to develop an understanding of the content through hands-on activities, group discussions, and an exam. Learners in this course should consider also taking the second course in the portfolio, C2302 - ARP4761A Guidelines and Methods of Performing the Safety Assessment for Certification of Civil Aircraft.

This course is part of a portfolio of two courses that support two interrelated guidelines. If ARP4754B covers “what” is required, the second guideline, ARP4761A provides the “how,” particularly for safety assessments. Although not required, participants will want to add on the following course to support their competency with the guidelines and its tools: C2302 - ARP4761A: Guidelines and Methods of Performing the Safety Assessment for Certification of Civil Aircraft.
