High Strength, 304/304L Stainless Steel Tubing
- Ground Vehicle Standard

This SAE standard covers both “welded and cold drawn” and “seamless” stainless steel pressure tubing in the as-cold-drawn high strength condition intended for use as high pressure hydraulic lines and other applications requiring corrosion resistance. Welding, brazing, or other thermal processing methods that subject the tube material or assembly to elevated temperatures may compromise the strength of the tubing.
Users and manufacturing committees have requested an SAE document to standardize stainless steel bulk tubing. This document is created to support the SAE need for a stainless steel, bulk tubing standard, which provides users with information and requirements regarding tubing material, dimensions, performance, and recommended attachment methods.

The Metallic Tubing Subcommittee of the FCCTC develops and maintains SAE Standards, Recommended Practices and Information Reports relating to metallic tubing with an intended use in pressure applications. Participants in the FCCTC Metallic Tubing Subcommittee include OEMs, suppliers, consulting firms, government and other interested parties.
* Redlines comparisons are available for those standards listed in the Revision History that contain a radio button. A redline comparison of the current version against a revision is accomplished by selecting the radio button next to the standard and then selecting 'compare'. At this time, Redline versions only exist for some AMS standards. SAE will continue to add redline versioning with ongoing updates to SAE MOBILUS.
