ARP4754B Guidelines for Development of Civil Aircraft and Systems

C2301

Abstract
Content

This course introduces the revised SAE standard ARP4754B and its guidelines of practice for aircraft and systems development. These guidelines drive compliance with regulations and assist companies to develop and meet their own internal standards though the application of those guidelines. The instructors for this course are writers of the SAE standard, with practical expertise in this domain. Learners will gain critical concepts of aircraft and systems development that ensure both project risk reduction and certification. The instructor guides learners to develop an understanding of the content through hands-on activities, group discussions, and an exam. Learners in this course will receive the ARP4754B Guidelines for Development of Civil Aircraft and Systems Standard  and should consider taking the second course in the portfolio, C2302 - ARP4761A Guidelines and Methods.

Learning Objectives
Content
  •  Describe the history and goals of development assurance (DA)
  • Apply the DA objectives to a project
  • Interact with other processes of safety assessment and the related DA processes
  • Plan integral activities over the development life cycle, coordinate DA aspects with certification authorities, and arrange DA Reviews for the project
  • Apply the DA process to reduce the risk of system problems, and cost and schedule impacts
  • Recognize how the DA process establishes confidence in a system's performance for certification
  • Evaluate DA objectives for completion at the conclusion of a project
Who Should Attend
Content

This course is designed for system engineers and other key personnel working on the civil aircraft/ system design and development, including but not limited to operational concept, requirements management, architecture design, system and item implementation, integration verification and validation, safety assessment, technical management, and program management.

The specific job roles that will benefit from this course include aviation, aircraft, and system engineers, system developers, system integration engineer, project manager, safety manager, risk manager, quality manager, safety staff, safety consultant, safety  analyst, certification engineer, certification specialist [SCB1] , operations engineer, human factors engineer, participant, engineer, systems engineer, safety researcher, aerospace engineer, aerospace engineering and operations technologists and technicians.

Prerequisites
Content

This course is part of a portfolio of two courses that support two interrelated guidelines.  If ARP4754B covers “what” is required, the second guideline, ARP4761A provides the “how,” particularly for safety assessments. Participants will want to add on the following course to support their competency with the guidelines and its tools: C2302 - ARP4761A: Guidelines and Methods of Performing the Safety Assessment for Certification of Civil Aircraft.
