Durability Tests of Gaskets in Biofuels Environment

The history of biofuels were shortly described in the introduction. The need of biofuels production as one of the way of improving the Europe Union energy security was presented. Biofuels production allows to develop and maintain the agriculture sector and to use the waste fats as an important production material. Legal provisions of bio-additives in fuel in Poland were presented. Biofuels properties and their influences on pipe, seals and gasket materials were described. It allowed to determine the need of research of new gasket material in contact with biofuels. According with DIN 28090-3:2014-11 and DIN28091-2 the gaskets materials were tested. During the 1000 hours tests in temperature 80 Celsius degree the mass loss of biofuel and change of the elongation (tensile stress) of the flange bolts were measured. Fuel leakage rate was calculated.After tests, the gasket were visual inspected and any delamination wasn’t noticed. The value of biofuels mass fugitive emission after 1000 hours test was smaller than allowable in DIN Standard. Fuel leakage rate was smaller than allowable according with DIN Standard, too. The main conclusion of this article was suggestion that, the used gaskets materials can be permitted in contact with gasoline with ethanol and Diesel fuel with methane esters
