Abstract
Some American automotive fuel pumps struggle to meet a performance level equivalent to one of the leading German pumps. By comparison the American pump measures 1.5in diameter by 6in long, weighing 11oz as opposed to the German pump that measures 2.125in diameter by 9in long that weighs 26oz. It is desirable to use the pump that supplies the weight advantage. Applying new technology will enhance the performance of the American pumps to a satisfactory level. Three new techniques, that have been tested and applied, are discussed.
- Gerotor mounting.
- Armature timing.
- P/M [Powder Metallurgy] coining process.
