- Content
The fifth volume of this compendium publishes technical guidelines and properties of ceramic matrix composite material systems. The content includes information on material selection, processing, characterization, testing, data reduction, design, analysis, quality control, application, case histories, and lessons learned of typical ceramic matrix composite materials.
Initial Release of Volume 5 superseded Mil-HDBK-17-5 dated June 17, 2002.
The Composite Materials Handbook, referred to as CMH-17, is an engineering reference tool that provides comprehensive, practical engineering guidelines that have proven reliable for the design, fabrication, characterization, test, and maintenance of polymer matrix, metal matrix, ceramic matrix, structural sandwich, and non-metallic AM materials. CMH-17 provides information and guidelines necessary to design and fabricate end items from composite materials. The compendium includes reliable data, linked to control of processes and raw materials, to provide material property basis values and design information that promotes the safe use of ceramic matrix composites in aerospace applications.
CMH-17 provides information and guidelines necessary to design, fabricate, and maintain components from composite and non-metallic additively manufactured (AM) materials. In support of this purpose, the handbook constitutes an overview of the field of advanced materials technology and engineering. It is used by engineers worldwide in designing and fabricating products made from composite materials.
