Electric systems will facilitate dispersal of hydraulic systems throughout the airframe.
For all their technological advancements, new commercial aircraft such as Boeing's 787 and Airbus' A350 still depend on traditional hydraulic systems that pull power from the engine and traverse the aircraft with tubing.
Hydraulics engineers do not believe that engine-driven pumps will be the norm in future aircraft, particularly for the next-generation narrow-body scheduled for the 2020 time frame. Hydraulic pumps will likely be separated from the main engines and installed at the flight-control surfaces in an electrically driven zonal configuration.
