Engine maturation programs ensure reliability for commercial powerplants.
Airlines want the next generation of engines to have a 20% lower cost of ownership, 30% fewer emissions, half the existing noise footprint around airports, and to be essentially maintenance-free, with no in-flight shutdowns or engine problems that result in delayed flights and cancellations.
For propulsion engineers, the way forward is attacking those challenges with a three-pronged approach that simultaneously addresses engine reliability, fuel efficiency, and life-cycle costs.
