The new 294-kW (400-hp) S62 engine developed by BMW's M GmbH features Double VANOS variable intake and exhaust valve timing, electronic drive-by-wire, and oil circulation boosted as a function of lateral cornering force.
The new M5, the most powerful “M” car ever built, is the newest product from BMW M GmbH-the division of BMW responsible for developing high-performance versions of its production models. BMW M cars traditionally have high-performance engines worthy of sports cars. That is true of the latest M5, for which BMW M GmbH has developed a new engine. While all previous M5s have been powered by straight-six engines, the new model comes with a 5.0-L V8 with more torque and power than any previous model.
“Above all, we wanted to create an abundant torque curve,” said BMW M engineer Wolfgang Kreinhomer.
