Terry Woychowski, General Motors' Chief Engineer of full-size trucks and two-time recipient of GM's highest recognition, the GM Chariman's Honors, sat down with Detroit Editor Kami Buchholz to discuss development of the company's full-size trucks and SUVs.

What are GM's primary short- and long-term engineering goals for full-size trucks and SUVs?

I'll answer that question a bit broadly. Overall, it's really what value you present to the customer. And that value takes a lot of different shapes: performance, interior refinement, overall comfort. Interior aspects are a huge push for us as we engineer products for the future. We're looking to improve spaciousness and harmony of human factors involved in the design and execution of switches and handles, which should be positioned exactly where needed and have the right tactile and the right sound quality. Cargo-carrying capabilities also are very important.
