The all-new high-performance M3 coupe debuts in North America.
According to BMW, the new M3 coupe, due in showrooms in late fall, is one of the most highly anticipated BMW models ever. The M3 follows the success of the previous two generations of the model, and was developed to ultra-high performance standards by BMW M-the Munich-based subsidiary of BMW.
Based on the newest-generation BMW 3 Series coupe, known internally as E46, the M3 begins with a more rigid body structure than its competent predecessor. A new 3.2-L inline six-cylinder engine, mated to a six-speed manual transmission, will deliver an estimated 245 kW (330 hp), up from 180 kW (240 hp) in the previous M3. Torque is increased to an estimated 345 N·m (255 lb·ft). This will allow the M3 to accelerate from 0 to 97 km/h (0 to 60 mph) in approximately 5 s.
