This special edition of Testing & Simulation focuses on some of the more innovative technologies designed to satisfy the industry's demanding testing needs.

When traffic-equipment manufacturers outsource components to be tested for compliance, a typical calibration lab will test the equipment and return the invoice with pass/fail statistics. Should the equipment fail, however, the manufacturer is left with unusable equipment-and questions about how to fix it to meet TS-2 standards set forth by the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA).

Typically, 85% of all traffic equipment-such as traffic lights and boxes, underground sensors, and red-light cameras-pass the TS-2 tests. But for the 15% that do not pass TS-2, manufacturers must find efficient, cost-conscious solutions to correct the failures.
