Our penchant for testing is due, in part, to regulation, but also to the complexity of today's automobiles. With the advent of electronics in everything from fuel injection and ignition systems to transmissions and even climate controls, gone are the days when a vehicle could be diagnosed and repaired using just a screwdriver, a crescent wrench, or a circuit tester.
