University students from around the world gathered in Marshall, MI, to determine which team could achieve the highest fuel economy at the 35th anniversary of the competition.
TECHNIQUES TO IMPROVE ECONOMY have been changing and improving over the past three decades, but despite the new innovations the foundations of the SAE Supermileage competition have remained almost unchanged.
When the competition began in 1980, the winning team vehicle achieved 558 mpg. Thirty-five years later, the winning team more than doubled that number.
