Industry trends demonstrate aerospace companies such as Lord are evolving from supplying just components to entire systems.
Known for its expertise in the technical analysis of components that are placed near or around noise-and vibration-reducing elements, Lord Corp. is responding to OEMs' requests for streamlined options by providing complete turnkey solutions for motion, noise, and vibration in terms of analysis, design, and manufacturing. About three years ago, Lord redefined its strategic approach to become more of a systems supplier, and in the last 12 to 18 months has engaged in contracts to deliver more than just traditional components and devices.
“Instead of merely providing an engine isolator for fixed-wing aircraft, we want to supply everything that goes between the engine and the pylon, which we call an engine-attach system,” said Becky Weih, Manager of Lord Aerospace Sales and Marketing. “And, for the rotary-wing industry, we have long provided bearings for helicopter rotor heads, but now assemble the entire rotor-head for some Bell models, reducing numerous purchase orders to a mere single order.”
