Staying on top of trends is important for companies who hope to secure contracts for larger portions of automative interiors.
As in any other industry, astuteness in the automotive sector means being able to identify trends in consumer preference and, even better, set new trends. Likewise as in any other, individuals working in the automotive industry sometimes disagree as to what constitutes a full-fledged trend.
But this much is pretty clear: “Interiors are definitely coming to the forefront of importance in selling vehicles.” Not only that, added Rus Shafer, Director of Interior Design at Intier, “Many of the trends we in design have been talking about for several years in terms of such things as honesty of materials, more innovative use of materials, and more incorporation of nonautomotive-traditional materials, are actually starting to happen. What that has done is give us a [material] range that historically we have not had in the automotive environment. Probably that to me is the big story in interiors, and it's just starting to hit the road.”
