Engineers using advanced tools create the sound of today's vehicles.

Driving an automobile is an experience of the senses. That includes sound. It is no longer good enough for automakers to deliver a quiet ride. OEMs are establishing brand identities around an expectation of how cars should sound, just as they do in styling and other attributes. Pony cars need a deep-throated roar when drivers punch the gas pedal; a high-end sedan needs a solid, deep purr to demonstrate luxury.

“To give our customers what they need in sound quality, we first help them design a quiet vehicle and engine-to clean it of objectionable noise. Then we tune in the specific sound quality they want,” said Kiran Govindswamy, Chief Engineer for NVH, CAE, and Driveline systems at FEV.
