Engineers are still at the heart of the development process as simulation tools become great levelers.
Time has always been a valuable currency in engineering, and many projects live or die based on how fast their teams can bring products to market.
Motor development may be one of the best examples of this truism in practice. Along with the motor itself coming with significant electronic engineering and thermal management challenges, it often needs to be developed with wider system considerations in mind, which can make product development extremely complex. After accounting for traditional prototyping cycles - with all the material, manpower, and time they require - motor development projects are often difficult and high-risk, owing to the sheer amount of up-front investment and resources required to develop a new system.
