- With the emergence of continuous improvements brought by the automotive industry, the reduction of energy losses of the engine and those at the wheel road interface led to a reduction in the braking capacity. An exhaust brake creates a significant constraint in the exhaust system and creates substantial exhaust back pressure to retard the engine speed and offer supplemental braking. The present work deals with designing a secondary braking system for a four stroke engine. An analysis is performed to account for brake power in each case for obtaining optimum performance exhibited from the considered various duct lengths and plate angles.
