Simulators bring NVH testing to the forefront of the vehicle design process.
The sounds generated by a vehicle play an important role in brand identification and product differentiation. However, in an effort to control the cost base, automakers are increasingly sharing platforms and components over a wide range of models, often having different sound-quality requirements.
The NVH community is now faced with the task of developing engineering processes that will maintain the essence of the brand while also keeping costs down and delivering product to market faster. To achieve this, an approach is required that leans more heavily on stimuli rather than data. By taking this approach, the opinions and judgments of non-experts and experts alike can be taken into consideration early in the design process.
