Through use of new technologies and integration, the industry continues to broaden the reach of sensors in passenger vehicles.
The proliferation of powerful electronic control modules is fueling a sharp growth in the number of sensors on a vehicle. These sensors make it possible to add new functions such as adaptive cruise control and keyless entry, and they can also make an impact on performance by reducing weight and cost.
Sensors link control modules to the real world, providing the information these modules need to make their decisions. They come in as many varieties as the fields they monitor; motion, vision, temperature, and other parameters are monitored by technologies such as radar and vision as well as sensors for pressure, acceleration, and many other parameters.
