Software has become a central aspect of vehicle performance and personality. That growth puts it front and center in the drive to reduce defects in vehicles.

Whether software controls safety functions such as airbags or infotainment systems that are continuously accessed, software has to run reliably. Recalls are costly and have a strong negative impact on consumer perceptions. Reducing software faults can play a huge role in improving safety, comfort, and quality levels.

While reliability remains a driving factor in software development, security is getting increased attention. Cyber attacks have brought this issue to the fore. As consumers become more aware of the volume of software in vehicles, and as vehicles become more connected to the Internet, this concern is extending to autos.
