CLEVER TECHNOLOGY PATHS TO THREE- AND FOUR-DIGIT FUEL EFFICIENCY WERE DEMONSTRATED by teams of collegiate engineering students at the 32nd annual SAE Supermileage competition, held in June at Eaton Corp.'s Marshall, MI, proving ground.
The vehicle developed by the Université de Sherbrooke won the challenge by besting 23 other teams from North America. The Quebec-based team notched 2158 mpg with a mandated average speed of 15 mph (24 km/h) and a maximum average speed of 25 mph (40 km/m) over six laps on the 1.6-mi (2.6-km) track.
