THE CAL POLY 2009 FORMULA HYBRID CAR WITH THE FUNNY WHEELS TOOK FIRST PLACE IN THE “HYBRID IN PROGRESS” CATEGORY.

THE CAL POLY TEAM started its 2009 Formula Hybrid car venture when Justin Jang, the team Leader at the time “pulled the plug” on the 2007-08 car. The team had Plug in America, a California not-for-profit corporation, and Zero Motorcycles signed on as its major sponsors, providing a well-, but not overly, funded base from which to start.

Around May 2008, the team started looking into other ideas, technologies, and ways it could approach the Formula Hybrid competition. It eventually came across the Bentley Greenpower car, a simple and beautiful little electric car that used bicycle tires for an efficiency type race.
