Improved digital design tools provide more insight into complex systems.
As the auto industry becomes more competitive, designers and engineers are increasingly relying on advanced software tools instead of creating prototypes. Software advances and the rapid evolution of personal computers (PCs) are changing automotive design, making it far simpler for automakers to run complex simulations. Engineers are now able to examine many more alternatives, looking at many parameters and the interaction between components and subsystems.
This ability to run simulations for simple components and complex subsystems lets designers look at far more alternative designs before making selections. It also gives them far more insight into the performance and reliability of new vehicles. In a market when adding new features and functions is critical, modeling and simulation are keys to productivity.
