To achieve sales of more than 1000 engines a full two years ahead of the first flight of the aircraft it is being built to power gives an indication of the high customer expectations from the most advanced in a long line of engines from Rolls-Royce.

THE ROLLS-ROYCE TRENT HIGH -THRUST ENGINES are the biggest-selling engine family in the widebody civil market, thanks to both Boeing and Airbus. However, R-R's latest offering, the Trent XWB, is far removed from its older siblings and represents the start of a new generation that looks set to become one of the biggest engine programs over the next three to four decades.

According to Jon Maplestone, Commercial Officer in R-R's Risk and Revenue Sharing Group, R-R's business strategy was to create a new international team, committed to bringing the engine to market within a very challenging timescale.
