Power from WITHIN

A new motor and inverter system have been developed simultaneously as the dedicated electric powertrain of the Nissan EV.

To ensure a smooth, pleasant driving experience that is characteristic of electric vehicles (EVs), the motor and inverter system developed for the Nissan Leaf has been specifically designed for the mass-produced vehicle. The Leaf's electric powertrain provides ample practical performance comparable to that of gasoline-engine vehicles, including a top speed of 140 km/h (90 mph) and gradeability of 30%.

The Leaf's drive motor is an interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPM) with an original design adapted to the ways in which EVs are driven. Compact in size, it delivers high power and efficiency to support the quick response characteristic of EVs.
