Since the Porsche 911 Turbo's introduction at the 1974 Paris Motor Show, the power and torque curves of the engines of successive generations of the car have moved inexorably onward and upward.

But what Porsche customers may not have appreciated is that despite a steady increase in cylinder capacity and huge improvements in output (starting from a relatively modest 194 kW/260 hp), the same basic engine architecture was retained-until now.
