Engineers who are familiar with Tesla's development approach to automated driving (AD) platforms recognize that it contains fundamental vehicle design flaws that are likely to stifle Elon Musk's promise to have 1 million robotaxi-capable SAE Level-4 (L4) vehicles on the road by end of 2020.

A much more realistic look at how L4 should be done was shown recently by Cruise CEO Dan Ammann, who took to the stage in San Francisco to unveil a vehicle called the Origin.
