Semiconductor suppliers are integrating many functions into power devices while also cutting power consumption in an environment-automotive doors-where 8-bit microcontrollers still hold sway.
The drive to squeeze new functions into any open space in vehicles has reached doors. Advances in power devices, motors, and microcontrollers are helping engineers engineer more features into doors.
Electronic control units in doors are adding a range of lighting options, while existing features such as window lifts are adding capabilities. The trend is typified by side mirrors, where sensors and motors are being added to help drivers.
