Several aerospace companies have employed new CAD systems to achieve cost savings as well as improved functionality.
Traditionally, computer-aided design (CAD) systems functioned only as a tool to draw a product. As they evolved, the systems began offering engineers more precision in three dimensions, with new functions such as solid modeling and kinematics becoming mainstream instruments used by engineers to improve fit and function of parts. These systems were further enhanced through integration with analysis and part data management tools. Several aerospace companies have employed these systems to achieve aggressive development schedules and reduce costs.
